My hamster and rat arent getting a long?
The cage is kinda big enough for em, Whats wrong?
Well, mixing two species is never a good thing. It isn't in their instincts to get along, because they are enemies in the wild and will fight for food, life, etc, because in the wild it can be a competition for getting food and making a living, and that instinct is occurring between the two. For example, rats eat mice in the wild. The hamster will probably kill the rat because they like living alone more than rats, but the rat DOES usually prey on smaller animals. Mixed species is what is wrong.
You need to get a new cage for one of them, but the rat needs the bigger cage with at least 2 cubic feet of space. And you need at least 2 rats because if not they will get depressed and die, so the cage should be at least 4 cubic feet or approximately 1.4 cubic meters. Oh, and hopefully you knew this, but if you didn't, the rat needs rat food and the hamster needs hamster food. I don't want to make you sound stupid, but since they are living in the same cage and all, maybe you...thought different.
