House Cedar
I have a Cedar Bat house. . . should I paint it?
Hello, my wife bought me a cedar Bat House from Lowe's to put out at our farm. My question is should bat houses be painted or just left natural? Thanks
The general consensus is that unpainted wood is more attractive to bats. The truth is, though, that nobody knows even if bat houses are particularly attractive to bats, or how useful they are. Bats are known to nest on the sides of houses for example, and those areas are typically painted. I'd suggest you do whatever you like, to match your decorating scheme if you want to, and it probably won't make any difference as to whether your "bat house" actually attracts bats or not. I think other factors, like location, availability of water, and which direction it's pointing are more important.
