How do I use reptile heating bulbs?
I have hermit crabs and the temperature is a little on the cold side, I want to bump it up around 4 degrees. So I'm going to buy a reptile heating bulb, the red kind. I was wondering, how do I use them? I know you you just put them inside the lamp, but is it alright if I have it sitting right on the screen part of the lid? Or will it burn? What wattage of a bulb should I get? Should I just get an UTH? WHAT DO I DO!!!!
if you have a screen top you can place the fixture ontop of the screen top. it will burn plastic. The wattage depends on the size of the tank and the type of temperature you are looking for. You will probably just want to either ask the store you are buying it from or post the size of the tank, the temperature the room currently is and the temperature you are looking to obtain? off hand if you would just like 4 degrees, the lowest wattage is probably what you're going to want to get.
